The undercard of BKB 49 features a matchup that has scratch-your-head written all over it. We have Simey “The Smoke” Doherty taking on “The Skull Crusher” Kallum Skhane.

If you follow bare knuckle betting you know weight classes exist for a reason. This fight looks like a physical mismatch on the scale but we think the skills gap is wide enough to make the underdog worth a look.

    Analyzing Simey Doherty

Doherty is a solid Middleweight who knows how to make a fight ugly. He isn’t going to snipe you from range. He wants to close the distance, tie you up, and stifle your offense.

He is very good in the clinch. If you rush in on him he will duck under and start working the uppercuts on the inside. He has been penalized for holding in the past but that is just part of his game. He makes it uncomfortable.

His range game is limited though. He doesn’t offer much from the outside. While he is the bigger man here his level of competition hasn’t been elite. He can be outboxed if you don’t let him grab you.

    Analyzing Kallum Skhane

Skhane is a Super Lightweight moving up. He is a counter puncher who likes to sit in his seat and make you miss. His head movement and footwork are quality and he is very solid at punching while moving backward.

He is coming off a loss to Harry Gigliotti which scares some bettors. But Gigliotti is a very good boxer and that finish came from an incredible body shot that changed the fight instantly. It wasn’t a bad loss at all. It took a high level shot to put him away.

Skhane has better cardio and better pure boxing ability. His “duck and overhand” entry is risky against an uppercut artist like Doherty but his speed is the equalizer.

Prediction: Simey Doherty vs Kallum Skhane

I don’t have a massive opinion on this one because the size difference is scary. But I am going to have a little sprinkle on Skhane.

Doherty is bigger but he is slower and has faced weaker competition than Skhane. Skhane’s loss to Gigliotti aged well because Gigliotti is a legit technician. Doherty is just a brawler.

I think Skhane will be too quick. He will pot shot from the outside and use his footwork to stay out of the clinch. As long as he avoids the tie-up he can point-fight his way to a win.

Official Pick: Kallum Skhane by Decision.
